To answer your question first, those are the herbs that caught on fire. It happens. Snuff the candle with the lid. While the wax is hot use an object that you've cleansed (sage, Florida water) like tongs, a knife just not your hands, to move the herbs away from the wick. Then relight and chant again. You shouldn't get the flame tornado again.

Ok so you're new. I'm going to ask this first - have you already burned the beginners bundle or Unhex, halo, and crossroads/a road opener individually AND read the book?

If not, I would suggest you put your blessings candle out so you don't waste it and go get cleansed and unblocked and opened up to work with spirit (if you read the book you will understand better). Then when you're done you can burn your blessings. Otherwise you may or may not get any movement at all from the candle and end up thinking it doesn't work when you may just need to be cleansed. If you've already burned it, make sure you still burn those candles, just protect the work you've already done with Unhex and be sure to protect after.

Next I'm going to ask you are you burning your candle in the middle of the floor or is just on the floor because you're worried about the flame? If you are, please do not burn your candles randomly on the floor. You need to create an altar "space" to work with spirit. It can be anywhere but it needs to be a defined space for the time your candle is burning. If it has to be the floor, make it nice - put it in a corner or near a wall, cleanse the area, put a cloth down (white is best but doesn't have to be unless it's conjure), use a fire proof dish/tray between the candle and cloth in case anything gets kicked over, etc. Place your glass of water there and if you prefer light sage or incense to burn in the space. It doesn't have to be an actual altar but a designated altar space while the candle burns. It's respect for spirit. Don't just light the candle anywhere.

if you have a deep pot like for cooking or an aluminum pan you could put it in that . also maybe snuff it & move the herbs away from the wick a bit so it’s not too crazy
