How long should you leave food of any sort on the alter? And once removed, should you just throw it away or is there a special way to dispose of it?

This is what I just researched, just in case anyone has this question in the future (:
Give the food to Nature directly, since Nature is the God and Goddess incarnate. The easiest way to do that is to set it on the ground somewhere outside. There, it will be eaten by animals or insects, and/or biodegrade to fertilize the soil. (Ideally, it should be placed on grass or dirt.) Make sure you don’t place any non-biodegradable material with it, like a plastic wrapper or styrofoam cup. Deities don’t use utensils and plates; They eat with Their hands.
I was referring to food though. I'm not new, I just never gave a food offering for example to Ezrulie Freda but I have her candle.
It depends on what it is water can be given to the earth and things like money, gifts and etc if you dont leave it at the altar you can donate it.
