Greetings. I had Papa Legba with my ancestral altar but he really has his own altar on the floor behind a door. It's good to read as much as you can regarding Legba. I'm waiting to move to my new place to set him up properly. Just be comfortable with what you have and let him know you'll do better as you grow into his knowledge.
Papa Legba is the gate keeper to the spirit world so he should have his own altar. I would suggest getting to know him first by reading about him.
It should be kept separate from any other altar on the floor & some suggest/recommend behind a door.
